Robert Vidler - Canada Week 4

My last week in Canada was taken as annual leave and I jammed in as much as I possibly could! I was lucky enough to have mates from Australia living in Whistler, and they gave me a place to stay for a few days. While I was there they showed me around, taking me on the Gondola to Whistler Peak and the Sasquatch zipline. We also played disc golf and got to spend half a day on the Blackcomb glacier snowboarding.

On Wednesday I caught the bus back to Vancouver where I hired a car and was offered a very cheap upgrade to a Dodge Charger. I caught the ferry from Horseshoe Bay to Nanaimo and stayed the night. I got to have a look around in Cabelas which was something reallly cool that I'd have loved to do from a young age! I then drove up to Tofino on the west coast of Vancouver Island which is a popular place for travelers, surfers and fishermen! The surfers all wear full body wet suits because the water temperature is about 11°c, and that's in their summer!!! I stayed at Ucluelet then drove back down to Victoria and Sidney to catch a ferry back to Vancouver to fly out Friday night.

During my time in Canada I saw so many beautiful buildings, structures and mountains. The lakes, streams and waterfalls are crystal clear due to being glacier fed. I also saw some wildlife including bears, chipmunks, deer, squirrels and marmots. (No kangaroos though)

I owe a huge thank you to everyone that has helped and supported me through this amazing time including everyone at East Coast Apprenticeships, SkillSourceBCIT: British Columbia Institute of Technology, Kane Construction, Glen from Jaheny Constructions, and Dale and Darlene for their generous hospitality.

I have grown so much from this incredible opportunity and will cherish this experience for the rest of my life.
